All SpeakWrite typists must be comfortable operating and maintaining their own computer and software,
and have a minimum typing speed of 65 wpm. They must bring a professional approach to the work, be committed
to maintaining and meeting their scheduled work sessions and must consistently produce a quality product.
SpeakWrite does not train typists, and no one should apply who expects to 'learn on the job'.
|
'Legal' Typist Applicants must:
- Have at least 24 months of increasingly responsible legal work in a law firm, not more
than five years previous to the date of application.
- Have specific experience in and a good working knowledge of the set up of legal pleadings,
agreements, court headings, interrogatories, deposition summaries, formal correspondence, etc.
- Have a good working knowledge of the proper format of legal citations.
'General' Typist Applicants must:
- Have at least 24 months of word processing or transcription experience, not more than five years previous to the date of application. (General office experience, data entry experience, accounting experience, etc. are not sufficient.)
- Have specific experience in and good working knowledge of the set up of formal correspondence, reports, etc.
Background Checks:
To comply with the contracting requirements of some of our larger clients, we perform background
checks on all company personnel, including our typist contractors, before they begin working for us.
This is done at our expense; all you will need to do is submit a Waiver to us during this application
process and we take care of the rest. SpeakWrite has contracted with a third party vendor (Intellius)
to complete the background checks. We do not see the results of those checks at any phase of the
process, nor is this information shared with anyone at any time. Unlike many background checks,
we DO NOT check your credit or driving history. Background checks are not conducted until you have
successfully passed all of your testing and have been accepted as a SpeakWrite independent contractor.
